MES' response to the WBAL Story - "The department and our client appear to want us to make a judgment call about when it’s okay to spray or not. WBAL Report: Centreville Water Source of Inquiry (5/9/2005) - Gilchrest: "We have this obvious, horrendous activity going on. Somebody should be brought to the woodshed for this."
Kollinger Cartoon and Editorial: At last, Gilchrest has a hint of scandal, Star-Democrat 5/6/2005 - "So the message Centreville is sending to terrorists wishing to disrupt the town’s sewage treatment capabilities is twofold. The first is that to gain access to the irrigation site you must first call the town office. And secondly, if your goal is to pollute our rivers and streams, we don’t need help."

Video of 3/29/2005 County Sanitary Commission tabling Centreville's request for an additional 42,000 gpd of Spray discharge. From the minutes: "Commissioner Ransom made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Cassell, to amend the 1996 Master Water and Sewer Plan to allow the Town of Centreville to increase its wastewater effluent discharge from 500,000 gpd to 542,000 contingent on receipt of a letter from Patrick Thompson, Esquire, County Attorney, saying this is acceptable. After discussion, Commissioner Cassell made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Ransom with Commissioner Niedomanski opposing, to table this vote until the Board receives the letter from Mr. Thompson, a schedule from MDE regarding the process for reviewing and issuing permits and a memo to the Planning and Zoning Department asking them to notify adjacent property owners and potential future developments of the use of spray irrigation."
Star-Democrat 3/25/2005 Two citizens criticize Centreville spray irrigation plan - "Prouty said after the hearing that bushes would be planted as a buffer between the homes and spray irrigation fields. He estimated the distance from the spray irrigation fields to the edge of Hope Road (opposite the homes) was 300 feet. He said the shortest distance between the spray fields and a stream (Three Bridges Branch) was also probably 300 feet. Prouty said all the treated wastewater must “soak into the ground” under the requirements of the MDE permit."
From County Sanitary Board Meeting 3/22/2005 - "The town of Centreville is seeking to increase their treated wastewater discharge limit from 500,000 gallons per day to 542,000 gallons per day. It is the intent to utilize the existing spray irrigation lands located on Tax Map 45 Parcel 3 during the growing season, and the existing stream discharge into Gravel Run during the winter season. The amendment request is to allow for the increase in discharge due to the new wastewater plant being able to produce effluent meeting ‘reclaimed water’ standards, which allows for a reduction in the width of the buffers."
