The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) intends to prepare an Environmental Assessment (EA), in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) (42 U.S.C. § 4321-4247) to analyze the potential impacts from the proposed construction of a U.S. Department of State (DoS) Foreign Affairs Security Training Center (FASTC) in Centreville, Maryland.
GSA will study the [...]

Dear Mr. Wright,

Dear Administrator Leeds:
The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) offers the following comments regarding the Foreign Affairs Security Training Center proposed to be located in Queen Anne’s County, Maryland, adjacent to Tuckahoe Creek, a tributary draining to the Chesapeake Bay. CBF and its members in this region among others throughout the Bay watershed are concerned that the [...]
Dear Senator Mikulski:
As you know, Queen Anne’s Conservation Association (QACA) has been actively engaged with the proposed Foreign Affairs Security Training Center (FASTC) since Ruthsburg was announced as the “preferred site” for FASTC.
We write to express our appreciation for your January 8 intervention with GSA Administrator Leeds. Your forceful action resulted in [...]
In response to requests from residents at a Feb. 2 meeting that speed limits on State Route 213 be lowered, a State Highway Administration official says he will meet again with the town in March to discuss data from a traffic study currently being conducted.
Read more in the Record-Observer
For the past two years the citizens of Centreville have fought to get the speed limit changed within the town limits to protect those who live here, walk to the post office and shops, and who`s lives are in jeopardy every time they attempt to cross the street. Two years citizens have gone to [...]
Dear Senator Mikulski,
First of all, I mean no disrespect to you nor your office.
With that said……I and my neighbors are absolutely INFURIATED by the GSA’s latest demonstration of disrespect shown not only to us, but also to your suggestion of showing us an example of what we are to expect in our community should the [...]
One of my greatest concerns regarding the State Department training site proposed for Queen Anne`s County is the loss of 2,000 acres of productive farmland in one of the most rural areas of our county. We will surely lose additional land to the inevitable future development that will arrive.
Federal government spokesmen have already said many [...]
As someone that lived in Queen Anne`s till I was 26 and still has family there, it saddens me to know that there are people in the county that believe allowing the Government to transform roughly 2,000 acres of farmland into a Security Training Center will benefit the people.
The only argument I have heard to [...]
In his January 12, 2010 letter to Sen. Mikulski, GSA Administrator Leeds promised to “publicize responses to the questions and comments we have received in person, by phone, and by e-mail at http://www.state.gov/recovery …”
As of today, I see nothing new on that website except a map of the proposed site, announcements of future meetings [...]
“The basic rule is that those parties who may have concerns about, or information on, the potential environmental effects of your action should be involved in the preparation and review of the EA. Under no circumstances should you prepare an EA instead of an EIS in an attempt to minimize public knowledge of or involvement [...]
The last paragraph of the article by Bobby McMahan which appeared in the Friday, January 22, 2010 edition of The Star Democrat stated…” A story about the methodology of the poll and the quesitons asked will appear in The Sunday Star.”

When the U.S. State Department declared the small Queen Anne`s County town of Ruthsburg as its preferred site for a new security training facility, politicians and business leaders began dreaming of the day when, smiling for the cameras, they would collectively sink their commemorative silver shovels in the ground, and pat each other on the [...]
